NBA 2K25 ProPLAY returns and now includes Shooting

2k continues to lean further into the ProPLAY feature that was introduced in NBA 2K24. 2K has switched from using the traditional motion capture method for recording the animations in the game to using video footage from actual NBA gameplay. This allows them to scale the number of animations in the game dramatically because they do not need to bring NBA players into the studio and capture their movement while playing basketball.

NBA 2K25 News for Animations

2k has added 9000 new ProPlay animations which includes 1,100 signature shots. We're about to have another busy year here at 2KLab.

NBA 2K25 Release Roadmap

2k has released their roadmap for the 2k25 release. The week of August 5th we will get news on MyPlayer and MyCareer. The week of August 12th will have details on MyNBA and TheW , the week of August 19th we will get MyTeam news and finally news related to the City will be released the week of August 26th.

NBA 2K25 New Dribble Engine

NBA 2K25 will feature a new dribble engine that they are advertising as the best upgrade in 15 years. ProPlay is completely taking over the dribble system and replacing the old engine which was based on pre-recorded animations. The gameplay blog promises a significantly improved dribble experience in 2k25 that sounds very promising and will hopefully add some variety to the moves players can use to create open looks.

NBA 2K25 Early Access

In the Twitch Stream on August 1, 2k announced that players who Pre Order 2k25 before September 6th will get access to the game on September 4th.

NBA 2K25 Shot Timing Profiles

It seems 2K is attempting to solve a difficult problem and make all players happy at the same time with this solution. Comp players will have the option of choosing a higher skill 'Green or Miss' shot timing profile, while newer players will have the option of disabling this difficulty-based shot timing profile which we assume will add RNG to the equation and be more forgiving on user timing. This sounds like an excellent approach to attempting to appease both player bases.

NBA 2K25 2KU Upgrades

2K has revamped the 2KU mode in NBA 2K25 to help new players pick up the skills they need to understand the basics of 2k. In the past, 2KU has had details on controls that many players do not know about.
